Introduction
The third United Nations, how a knowledge ecology helps the UN think by Tatiana Carianis and Thomas G. Weis published by Oxford University Press in 2021. The idea grew out of our work on the UN intellectual history project that ran for a little over 10 years starting in 1999. This led to our conceptualization of the third UN in an article we wrote for global governance in 2009 together with Richard Jolly. Tom and I decided over many points of Guinness a decade later that the pandemic would be a good opportunity to expand on the concept.
