In 1983, ESPN has now become the biggest cable network in the US. In 1984, they end up selling Getty oil to Texaco for $10 billion. The first big deal that ESPN does with a very large cable provider where the cable provider pays them was with cable vision. And that's the dawn of the affiliate fee era.
