Not every student begins at the same place, nor is it even reasonable to imagine every student can or should and up at the same time. Critical pedagogical practice has to acknowledge the background, context, and embodied experience that both teachers and students bring to the classroom. We have an ethical responsibility to recognize and take into account the full ramifications of how that grade impacts their future learning as well as reflects their current learning.
