The May Day's Betrayal
There's a definite sense of betrayal around the events of the May Day's. Juan Garthi Oliver, who was at that point as Minister of Justice in the Republican government, had been the key dashing figure of revolutionary insurrectionism prior to Civil War. He completely disregards any of the kind of political issues that were at work here. People listening to him say they couldn't really believe it. It was an absolute transformation. And I think in that sense, you know, the comparison that became quite widespread between the May Day's and the Kronstadt uprising,. which for many, particularly in the anarchist tradition marks the end point of the Russian Revolution.
