Are You Worried About the American Project?
My writings are not, I think, an ambiguously positive about the American future. Colossus was published 20 years ago or thereabouts and it was the decline in fall of America's empire. The Great Degeneration warned that the biggest threats to Western predominance were from within. To me it's an act of grotesque moral turpitude to write a lesser of that sort yet within the current generation of students this is regarded as almost a heroic act. So we're in a very dangerous situation. That's why I don't think the existing universities can be salvaged.
