The Importance of Harm Reduction in Hoarding Disorder
The aim is not to make a cookie cutter sterile home that Martha Stewart can come over for tea. Not throw away everything, but keep their personalities and not have it look like anybody could live there or that they didn't live there at all. We recommend more of a harm reduction approach. It's not to cure somebody because there is no cure for hoarding disorder. There's no medication. There's really no therapeutic cure that somebody will be fixed after three years of therapy. But harm reduction helps them focus in on safety, comfort, safety, comfort and health.
