Other cities and counties around the country outside of LA have ended this problem of veteran homelessness specifically. The biggest one is our incredibly expensive housing market rents, which makes it easier to become homeless in the first place. President Biden has declared that this is a priority again. Helping veterans afford the rent because no one should be homeless in America, especially someone who served the country.
When the Veterans Administration failed to build the homes it promised, unhoused vets built a tent city across the street — in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Los Angeles. KCRW’s Anna Scott tells their story in “City of Tents: Veterans Row.”
