Zeno's Foray Into Religion
The rebels made no attempt to march on Constantinople, which gave Zeno time to find new allies. He turned to Theodoric the Amal, leader of the Goths who we will properly introduce in a moment. Ilas Leonteus and Verena fled back to Isoria, and were besieged in a fortress named Papyrius for four years. In 488 the remaining rebels were betrayed, the gates were flung open, and their heads were sent to Constantinople. After nearly fifteen years of strife, Zeno could finally rest a little easier on the throne.
