The Taxonomy of Interoperability
Interop. is one of those nearly mystical ideas like universality that is at the same time extremely obvious and also has a lot of subtlety to it at its core interop is just the idea that you can plug something into something else. I have a taxonomy of interoperability that spans three different types so the first type is cooperative or voluntary interoperability, then there's indifferent interoperability where people don't care if their product doesn't work with your other products they do it anyway. The last kind is gorilla warfare interoperability or adversarial interoperability which means companies won't go out of their way to make it easy for users but will stop them from doing what they want
