The west has had several months to rally allies and partners in europe. A lot of countries were just caught completely off guard when russia first invaded the crimean peninsula back in 20 14. There's always been a military base here, but it is massively expanded in the last few weeks. From the satellite imagery, there are more than 500 military vehicles currently based.

Russia has kept its military at Ukraine’s doorstep for almost a decade. But a recent escalation on the border is creating fears of a full-blown invasion.
