The New Found Land in North America
John Cabot made a voyage to the region around Newfoundland in the late 1400s. The land that Cabot encountered became known as the New Found Land back in England and of course that produced the modern name Newfoundland. Almost a century had passed since Cabot's expedition but there was still no permanent European settlements in the vicinity of Newfoundland or anywhere else in the northern part of North America.
