The Dangers of Incumbency Bias in Politics
Some within the BBC are too willing to fold under pressure from number 10 in terms of political coverage. The danger is that you end up with a culture where the government can directly influence the output. It's not an open and shut thing, but it's justIt is a big worry. And I will, again, one of my concerns was that by turning it into kind of a news machine and not being a distinct department that did different things in politics,. You end up with one person effectively the gatekeeper from downing street to the BBC in politics, the BBC Westminster. That's how the structure has now been built.And that strike is dangerous.
