The Implications of Sociology on Public Policy

Sociologists are not relied on, have never been really relied on to produce policies. Sociology has never attained status of science as much as economics has. So our influence hasn't reached the public policy domain which is the domain of another group of academics. And again, I don't know whether this is good or bad, but I think we're more modest in terms of our work. We know we can try to help people to understand the world... But most sociologists would find themselves not qualified.
