As you throw more compute and better algorithms at these models, they will just get better at like, in the case of GBT, predicting the next word in a sentence. But it's not obvious from the outset whether they'll get better at writing bios or whether they'll getting better at writing essays about literature or biology. And so that's one way in which you get these kinds of emergent capabilities. Even after you've like deployed it, quite often it just takes a long time for people to sort of figure out all of the things that the system could be used to do.
