The Stamp Tax - A New Tax, Not a New Tax

The French parliament refused to register a new stamp tax. The king's next move was the 'li de justice' - an edict forcing through reforms by his own royal will. Brienn decided not to press the issue, and he did pull back the stamp tax. But that was mostly because the stamp tax was small potatoes compared to the other big revenue initiative which needed to be registered.
