Irish on the Island of Ireland

There are three major dialects of Irish on the island of Ireland. The Ulster dialect is obviously the one that I've grown up with. English arrived in this island in the 12th century with the arrival of the Angru Normans. It was a number of centuries before linguistic change has led to Irish becoming the minority language and English being significantly the language of the majority.
