Is It Important to Be Fluent With the Text as Well as the Notes?
When an opera was originally written in one language and then done in another, some of the notes were changed. So yes, it's important to be er fluent with the text as well as the notes. And that's what you're speaking about, where the composers would say, oh, no, i need to readjust them. Absolutely. But not just in the nineteenth century. Classic case in point, dialogue de carmelite, the dialogue of the carmelites. It was written with french librero. That was not the language that the world premier was given.
