Abravanel on Maimonides' Orthodoxy

Abravanel: Maimonides portrayed the law as consisting of principles and derived beliefs for merely pedagogical purposes. We are under an obligation to believe and may be severely punished if we fail to do so, says Abravanel. One can't just change one's belief at will in response to a threat or command, but one can take steps that might lead to belief.
