Heschel: Douglass was a prophet in the sense of calling, well first predicting some sort of a war as a result of slavery. He says once it started calling it what it was from the very beginning, he called it the abolition war and was said it was 100% about slavery. Heschel: When we consider his impatience with the Lincoln administration's halting and sometimes hostile approach to emancipation it is worth contemplating the lens through which Douglass judged the war's purpose.
