Is Superego Really a Force for Social Authority?

Super ego is basically taking the subject's own drive and turning it, allowing it to act as a force for the figure of social authority. What it takes over where the law can't be effective, yes? Or kind of a gap or a a failure of the law that's rhyan are such a great passage. It's like the thing that frees subjectivity and turns it into the thing that enchains subjectivity.
