The Mission Craze of Civil Asset Forfeiture
The proponents of civil asset forfeiture argue this is a mission critical tool for hamstringing crime. Every year, somewhere around $12 billion worth of pure profit comes from the US to Mexico. The amount of assets seized by local law enforcement agencies across the country tripled in 2004 was 567 million. In 2008, it was 1.6 billion.
