The Importance of Recognizing and Dealing With Regret
The American Regret Project is the largest public opinion survey ever conducted on American attitudes about regret. We ask people this question, how often do you look back on your life and wish you had done things differently? Now, I'm describing regret, but I'm not using the R word. One percent said never. 13% said rarely. And everybody else said at least occasionally. So this emotion is part of our cognitive machinery. It is part of who we are. The reason is that if we treat it right, it is useful.
