In this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase to get some shut-eye. Now this is your eye, and this is your eyes shut. And when we say that you need to get some shut-eye, all we really mean is that you need some sleep. Let's say that it's been a long day, and it's 9:30 or 10 o'clock at night. I might say to Jen, ah, you know what, I'm really tired. I need to get some shut-eye. Basically, all I'm saying is that I need to get some sleep. This happens a lot more often in the summer when I'm doing physical labor on the farm. A lot of times I'll work really hard all day, using my muscles, and then at the end of the day, I really feel worn out, and I need some shut-eye. So it basically just means that you need some sleep.

The other phrase I wanted to teach you today is the phrase to have a hunch. Now I have a hunch I might have done this phrase already in the past. When you have a hunch, it means that you think something is true, but you don't really have a lot of facts, or details to prove it. Sometimes when police are investigating a crime, they'll have a hunch. You'll hear this a lot on police TV shows, they'll have a hunch. That means they don't necessarily have clues or facts about how to solve the crime, but their brain is just kind of telling them what they should do. I have a hunch that Jen will be home soon actually, because she left about an hour ago, and she just went to do a few errands. So I have a hunch that she'll be home soon. I don't actually know if she'll be home soon. I just think she will be based on a few feelings that I have, and a couple things that I know. So I, she hasn't texted me, and said I'll be home in 10 minutes, but I have a hunch she'll be home soon.
So to review, to get some shut-eye means to simply get some sleep. And it's kind of funny, isn't it? To get some shut-eye, you shut your eyes, and then you sleep. And then to have a hunch means that you think something is true. Not because you have a lot of facts, but simply because you have this feeling, you have a hunch.

So I appreciate the thank you, and I do think these lessons are kind of, I would say they're an acquired taste. In English, when we say something is an acquired taste, it usually means that it's not for everybody. And you have to kind of find a way to use that thing in a way that helps you. So these videos aren't necessarily for everybody, these short English lessons, because I do talk a little quicker for the last two minutes, because I do teach two phrases really, really quickly. And for some people, that's not enough phrases. They wanna learn like 20 phrases at once, but they are fun for me to do. And I'm glad that people do appreciate them. I've never expected this channel to become really, really big, but it is fun for me to do these lessons.
