God always has a purpose when he judicially hardens a person. Pharaoh is a perfect example of that. The Pharaoh is a parallel, by the way, to what he's doing to Israel. He's hardening Israel to bringing about the second Passover in the same way that he hardened Pharaoh to bring about the first Passover. There's a perfect beautiful parallel between the hardening of Pharaoh and the hardeningof Israel in bringing about the Passovers.
