Many homes that survived Hurricane Ian did so because they were built or renovated after stronger building codes were put in place. Nicholas Rakovich is a university at Buffalo professor in the Department of Architecture who studies climate adaptation and resilience in cities and buildings. "The first thing really is to not build buildings in vulnerable locations," he says.
