The Politics of Inflation

Some people are better able than others to protect themselves from rising prices. But if you're a saver there is a risk for your cash savings eroded over time. The first problem is that all assets tend to do poorly during periods of inflation. If you bought equities at the beginning of the 1970s and stuck with them through the decade as a whole you'd have done better with those and investing in government bonds.
