Russia and NATO - What Are the Russians' Objectives?

Russia has a certain stated objective, which is demilitarization and the denarcification of Ukraine. It obviously also wants to reunify the Donbas region with Russia because it's a Russian majority region. To have American influence right at your doorstep from the Russian perspective is a red line that cannot be allowed to be crossed. The Russians want to eliminate all American influence from the Ukraine region.
