HIV and HIV: An Analytic Approach
I wrote about how I saw activists talking about if they reformed HIV laws and left some of them on the books in ways that some people get prosecuted for them and others wouldn't, that was going to create a kind of viral underclass. And Tonya and I talked about it and decided that what I should use that as an analytic to look at past pandemics. So that was kind of how it began. Another move from it was I think the dissertation in my previous reporting on this had really focused on the ways that HIV criminalization showed a kind of systemic racism and illustrated a kind of racism.
