The Background to the Iranian Protests
As of April this year, 537 protesters and 57 police officers had died in Iran. That's in addition to an estimated 19,200 people who were arrested. Iranian women continued to break the rules by not wearing those head coverings in public. Experts said that it was only a matter of time before the authorities began another crackdown.
