The Limits of Artificial Intelligence
In the 1980s, Eric Drexler wrote a book arguing that it would be possible to build tiny molecular-scale robots. The key concern is that these AIs need to somehow get access to the physical world which allows us to provide a barrier. I think something else people don't think about enough is we're used to thinking about systems like online services or a cell phone network as very automatic. They just kind of work by themselves. And that's only true because there's a lot of very hardworking people behind the scenes going up and repairing them.
