The State of the Law in Australia

A number of laws were struck down, but also a number were approved by the High Court. They're concerned above all with the institutional integrity of the state court and whether that's been undermined or interfered with. Invariably, what seems to happen in these areas of law is that parliament and government see a technique they can use with respect to really serious offenders who they fear will offend again. And so why can't we just expand that out a little bit? Maybe we can cover a slightly wider category, slightly wider category?"
