In politically driven organizations, or organizations with decentralized pianels, the easy way out is to try to develop a brand positioning platform in a silo. This approach is the path of least resistance, but will fail nine out of ten times. When you engage with a client, do you are you able to tell pretty early on if they're going to be able to get widespread support for this? Or if it's going to be one of those offsight, a skunk works kind of projects. And i never have a problem convincing my client that that's the way to go. Because, frankly, i do the work, not them.
