The D-Day Frontal Frontal Assault
If you look at the D-Day beach's defense plans they are incredibly complex and detailed. There doesn't appear to be a plan other than getting on the beach and moving on to take up defense against the inevitable panzer counter-attack. The embarrassment of first american units coming ashore suffering more casualties in one day than what they'd suffered at Pearl Harbor for example is an embarrassment.
