The History of the Trade Routes
One thing that struck me very strongly reading for this programme was the elaboration of the trade routes. Can you talk about these trade routes? They do seem to be quite wonderful. All over Western Europe, you can see how the rivers were important. There were root nodes joining one route to another. Mainly sea, water truss. Yes, a lot of cross land along the river routes and across interfloves but also by sea. Sea was very important, Atlantic was very important. So you've got these networks, they exist. They're there by the time that people discover copper and then bronze. And to start with, as Sue was saying, copper and bronze, they're
