To try to force the environment to adjust to the system, rather than vice versa, is truly to get the cart before the horse. The idea that like refusing to pay attention to it is just an tempt to make the environment do the adjusting. Ah, but it forces the kind of internal locus of control. It forces you to acknowledge that in system that you may or may not be in control of, but are certainly hoping to probably direct in some particulara direction.
