Antinuous's Death

Antinuous had been born in 111 in Bethinia, and was, by all accounts, a beautiful young man. It is supposed that sometime around 124, Antinuous was enrolled in the imperial page program. Some have it that Antinuous willingly gave himself up; some that Hadrian's agents killed him without his knowledge. Still others state that he was sacrificed according to mystical advice of Egyptian holy men who told the emperor he could achieve long life if another died in his place.
