The Importance of Perfectionism in Writing

I write six hours a day seven days a week and I haven't taken a day off in since 1980 really Christmas so obviously I am devoted to the craft of writing. whenever there's an stylistic mistake a mistaken rhythm or sound or tone in my work, I go berserk. My wife does not want to be in the in the house with me so in that sense I think perfectionism is essential. What makes prose perfect to my ear just as what makes a magician's demonstration perfect to the audience is not mechanical virtuosity no matter how hard you struggle to achieve perfection.
