The Confusion of Squids, Octopuses, and Cuttlefish
Why is there so much terminology called confusion concerning squids, octopuses, and cuttlefish in classical literature? It largely comes from Aristotle. And as later commentators and translators are obviously confused about exactly which creature he was referring to. The confusion does become pretty much a quality of squid or even squishy natural history for the next many years.
