When the Exorcist came out most people became priests. People joined the church and the priesthood in numbers that they have not seen since. There was a lot of controversy as I think you're pointing out Joe about the film in the church. Most of the people who were at the highest level of the church not only believed in it and promoted it totally but like Father Pedro Arupe, head of the Jesuit order  in Milan.
