The Lesser Is Easier
When you have a number like 53 that you're going to put on the number line, I think it's a whole lot easier for kids to say, "It's 53 away from zero" But finding the greater hundred or the greater 10 requires a little bit of additional subtraction. So y'all, when you're rounding, don't just round. Like do it as a part of helping students really learn all of these numerical relationshipsthat will keep them in good stead.
