Is There Any Wrong Kind of Motivation?

I recently had a close friend pass away and I'm finding myself doing things that I know will continue to make him proud to just kind of feel feels wrong in comparison to doing these things for myself right? Is there such a thing as the wrong kind of motivation or is it purpose motivation which is great. The internet's full of people who judge people on bullshit standards with no nuance whatsoever, he says. He also talks about using negative energy into productive action.
