The Rate of Return in the Stock Market Over the Last 13 Years

The average rate of return on stocks over the last 13 years was about 8%, which is exactly what you would expect. But in order to get that 4% additional rate of return, it has been dependent upon $44 trillion worth of monetary and fiscal stimulus. If we can't keep generating that type of monetary stimulus, then rates of return have to fall. And that doesn't necessarily mean you're having a huge bear market.
