Nixon and Ceausescu: A Mixed Bag

In 1968, Romania's dictator Ceausescu went to China with Richard Nixon. The move was seen by some as a bold act of foreign policy; others saw it as disastrous. But in the long run, this could be good for Ceausesu because he'll get more help from other countries. In August 1969, Czechoslovakia elects a new first secretary and communist state is created.
