The Importance of a Telescope in the Evolution of the Universe
The expansion of the universe stretches the light and makes it redder. You really need a telescope that can see in the infrared to see the light coming from the earliest stars and galaxies. Some of them emitted the light that we see today when the universe was only a few hundred million years old, 13 and a half billion years ago. Now we can start reconstructing the history of the first stars, the first galaxies and run the movie forward to us.
