The Importance of the Teacher as a Guide and Authentic Presence in the Classroom
There's almost a deladtantishness to the Columbia framework where you can be an expert in your area. You're still not necessarily required or invited to form a sympathetic bond with Homer, Dante or Gandhi. I actually find that to be the most contrarian of all the ways that the core is contrarian. The idea of being an appreciator of books as opposed to a critic of books.
