Coherence and Confirmation Bias
When we're trying to explain things in practice, we want a causal narrative. We strongly desire an explanation that has a cause and effect storyline to it. Coherence is also the source of halo effect. Halo effect is when your opinions about an idea tend to inform your opinions about every facet of that idea or person. Admitting that you were wrong requires accepting that you, the protagonist of your own story, at some time in the past did something dumb or wrongor something that you regret.
