The Slaveryhouse Cases

The first case that made its way to the US Supreme Court dealing with the interpretation of the 14th amendment are known as the slaughterhouse cases. These cases had absolutely nothing to do with black citizenship or newly freed people. Instead, these were cases involving white businessmen in Louisiana. In question was the constitutionality of an 1869 Louisiana law that incorporated the Crescent City livestock land in and slaughterhouse company.
