The Right Kinase in B Cell Malignancy
The idea of a kinase in StlL was really quite foreign to me. What I didn't have the insight to know at the time was how important it was to get CLL cells out of their protective niches and spleen nodes. The lymphocytosis that occurs with BTK also reverses when you stop it. And so when we put patients on these BTK inhibitors, you saw their lymphocytes go up and their lymph nodes shrink,. then you took them off their lymphocyte came down, their lymph nodes grew; this cycle repeated itself.
