Bats have an unusual long life span relative to their most related species. For the longest time, they thought that their closest relatives were shrews. The first couple of bat genoms that were sequenced seemed to be a horse. But what kind of creatures bats originally arose from? We have no idea,. except they couldn't possibly have been anywhere close to us.
