Osteoarthritis classically involves the DIPs but can also involve some of the other hand joints. The distal interflangeal joints and the first CMC or the base of the thumb are typically affected. People with osteoarthritis can have some stiffness in the morning and they can have a jelling phenomenon but it's usually not prolonged. If you get better with with activity that's suspicious for an inflammatory arthritis.
